Tanguy Ndombele was Tottenham Hotspur’s summer signature last summer, but the career of the French midfielder in north London already seems to be in trouble.

Spurs manager Jose Mourinho has publicly criticized the player, suggesting that Ndombele could leave just one season after joining the club.

Barcelona have been associated with a move to sign the club record record £ 55 million, and are said to be ready to get around their financial problems by offering a selection of players to the Spurs in return.

So who should the Spurs ask in exchange for Ndombele? Here are five Barça players they could use …

Arthur Melo

Melo would be a great addition to Tottenham, and the midfielder has already been mentioned in reports of Barca’s interest in Ndombele.

The Brazilian is a favorite of Camp Nou fans for his ability on the ball and his eye for a pass. It would be an important upgrade for Spurs on Eric Dier, Mourinho’s current pass-master.

Melo is still only 23 years old and would leave Barcelona not as a failure, but rather as a victim of their recent dispersal rifle transfer strategy.

He is the kind of player that Mourinho could build as a central pillar. He could also sign an agreement with Giovani Lo Celso, but Juventus also wants to conclude an agreement this summer.

Ousmane Dembele

Given that Barcelona would like to recover as much of the 105 million euros they paid for Ousmane Dembele in 2017, the Spurs may have to offer Ndombele more money for the French winger, but that could still be a nifty affair .

Possible transfer options for Spurs if Tanguy Ndombele joins Barcelona this summer. From left to right, they are Samuel Umtiti, Nelson Semedo and Arthur Melo.

Dembele fought for fitness and physical fitness at Camp Nou, but his natural talent is beyond doubt. He needs a club where he can be sure of playing in the first team, and the Spurs could give him one. Assuming he can stay in shape, Dembele would be a real improvement on Lucas Moura on the right side of Mourinho’s attack line.

Sergi Roberto

His career in Barcelona has been changing for years and was almost sold to one of the Roma or Paris Saint-Germain last summer, but Roberto remains a reliable figure for the Catalan club.

Midfielder Roberto was converted back right recently, which means he would fill a very clear gap for Tottenham.

Roberto is a graduate of La Masia, so persuading him to leave Camp Nou could be difficult, but Barcelona would apparently be open to including it in any deal for Ndombele having already offered it to potential suitors.

Nelson semedo

Semedo would be a more ambitious target for Tottenham, but his name has already been mentioned as part of a possible swap agreement for Ndombele. The Portuguese right-back has impressed for Barcelona since coming from Benfica two summers ago, but has so far failed to find a regular place on the team.

Many Barça fans see Semedo as the right-back option superior to Roberto, but Quique Setien and Ernesto Valverde before him had doubts. Semedo would be a great addition to the Spurs team and, at 26, is entering his peak years as a professional.

Samuel Umtiti

At first Umtiti seemed to be the natural heir of Carles Puyol in Barcelona. The French central defender made a strong impression after arriving at Camp Nou in Lyon in the summer of 2016, but injuries have since hampered his progress and it now looks like his career at Barça could be as good as it ended.

Umtiti has been linked to almost all elite clubs in the past two years, with Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United as admirers.

Spurs should lead the way, however, so is their need for a new central defender. Umtiti needs a fresh start and he could find it in North London.
