First coronavirus death reported to South Tyneside hospital trust in two days, four more cases confirmed in borough

The NHS England provisionally confirmed on Saturday May 23 that the number of victims of Covid-19 in South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust has increased from one to 312.

The tragic loss follows two days when no deaths were reported to the Health Trust.

There is no public breakdown to indicate how many victims are from Sunderland.

In English hospitals, 157 other people, who tested positive for Covid-19, died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths to 25,544.

NHS England also announced that the youngest person who died after being tested positive for Covid-19 was only 12 years old.

Separate figures released Saturday May 23 by Public Health England show that the number of coronavirus cases in south Tyneside has increased from four to 730.

The total number of deaths in the UK increased by 282 to 36,675.
