Emirates News Agency – France supports decision to postpone Dubai World Expo to next year


PARIS, May 5, 2020 (WAM) – Through its Commissioner General at the 2020 Universal Exhibition in Dubai, France has announced its support for the decision to postpone the event for one year, from October 1, 2021 to 31 March 2022.

This postponement was officially announced by Expo 2020 Dubai and should be approved by the International Exhibition Bureau (BIE) on May 29.

The French Pavilion, with the support of the Compagnie Française des Expositions (COFREX), the organization responsible for organizing France’s participation in international and world exhibitions, and its partners, invite visitors to share their ambition, renewed in October 2021 The one-year postponement will give France the opportunity to reinvent its pavilion to better respond to the current global challenge of innovative mobility solutions, respectful of the environment and oriented towards the user.

France, through its Commissioner General at the 2020 Universal Exhibition in Dubai, has expressed support for the decision taken by more than two thirds of the member states of the BIE and the organizers of Expo 2020 Dubai; a reasonable and responsible step in these uncertain times. The decision to postpone the event, supported by France and by more than two-thirds of the BIE member states, aims to ensure that the millions of visitors expected at the Expo can enjoy the event in the best conditions.

The goal of a world fair is to raise awareness and work to solve the biggest challenges we face today. Expo 2020 Dubai’s theme “Connecting Minds, Creating the Future” is now more important than ever. All nations will come together for six months to brainstorm, propose and implement concrete solutions in the service of humanity. Given the current health crisis, this theme is no longer a suggestion, but a priority.

France will echo this need, using the France Pavilion to show how French innovation can play a role in achieving this goal. This international event will provide France with a platform to present its actions and innovations with new mobility solutions that respect the environment and are user-oriented.
