Drug trafficker fleeing justice in France is under arrest after Spanish police find the 45-year-old Bulgarian in the holiday town of Costal Almeria, Roquetas de Mar.
He is now facing a four-year prison sentence for belonging to a criminal organization and for illegal trafficking in drugs, including narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
French authorities assembled a group of suspected gang members on the French-Spanish border in late December as a convoy carrying hidden drugs headed for Paris and several cities in Germany.
The Bulgarian, traveling in a vehicle ahead of him to alert the convoy at police checkpoints, managed to escape.
France has issued a European arrest warrant. The possible detention of Roquetas, 45, is the result of international police cooperation through the European network ENFAST of fugitive active search teams.
When he appeared, he could live in the town of Costa Almeria, the police set up a search and arrest operation. Investigations and discreet surveillance eventually led to the suspect.
When the police entered to handcuff him, he fought and tried to escape, police said.
