It’s a new day in South Florida, and to say the least. When Brian Flores took the reins as the organization’s head coach in 2019, things didn’t really start off explosively. The end of the season showed a glittering team of Dolphins who could actually make a splash in AFC East, but they would have to move around certain rooms to become real contenders. The latest is at the expense of Charles Harris, a pass assist veteran who was the team’s first round pick in 2017 in Missouri.

Harris allegedly traded to the Atlanta Falcons, by NFL Network Tom Pelissero, ending his stay in South Florida and starting his next chapter in North Georgia, and in return for only a seventh round pick. Dolphins trade Harris just one day after releasing Taco Charlton, another disappointing pick in the first round of the 2017 draft class – a selection that hangs like an albatross around the neck of the Dallas Cowboys – as Flores and the Dolphins turn worms juice on their defensive front.

They signed both Emmanuel Ogbah and Shaq Lawson in free agency and caught three defensive linemen in the 2020 NFL draft, hinting at more changes to come.

The NFL deadline to exercise the fifth year option in a first round choice was fast approaching, but the Dolphins chose to move instead. Harris joined a defense of the Falcons who sought to strengthen his pass rush, but who also canceled the exercise of the fifth year option on his own first round pick at Takkarist McKinley, making it a tough test these recent times for the runners caught in this round that year, although McKinley was much more successful at the NFL level than Charlton and Harris combined.

Harris and McKinley should now be teammates in Atlanta for at least the 2020 season, assuming the Falcons won’t end up shipping the latter via trade. The former is expected to earn $ 1.943 million in base salary this coming season, unless he changes his place on the list or his contract with the Falcons.
