Coronavirus: WestJet extends flight cancellations due to reduced demand

WestJet says it is extending many flight cancellations in early July as it continues to face record passenger numbers due to COVID-19.

In late April, the Calgary carrier announced that it was canceling some 18,000 flights between May 5 and June 4.

A WestJet announcement on Sunday indicates that domestic route suspensions will continue until July 4 and that several domestic seasonal routes will not begin until July.

He also indicates that he is extending his temporary suspensions of cross-border and international routes until June 25.

WestJet says the move is aimed at “meeting a significantly reduced demand for air travelers while continuing to keep open essential economic routes for essential travel and cargo.”

The airline indicates that customers who have booked a trip between June 5 and July 4 will be informed of their options.
