On Friday evening, the world’s largest cargo plane landed at Mirabel Airport, north of Montreal, with personal protective equipment (PPE) to help Quebec fight COVID-19.

The aircraft, the Antonov AN-225 Mriya, landed around 9:00 p.m. just north of Montreal after taking off from Anchorage, Alaska earlier today. The Quebec-chartered aircraft has transported the largest amount of PPE to the province since the onset of the health crisis.

The medical supplies, which have been shipped from China, will be distributed to front-line health workers in the province to help Quebec fight the pandemic.

Charter airline Nolinor Aviation said 1,000 cubic meters of protective equipment for healthcare workers had been unloaded from the plane.

The company added that workers unloaded the equipment until 5 am from the huge cargo plane, which was built to carry up to 640 tonnes (640,000 kilograms).
