Coronavirus Essex: Seven More Deaths Recorded in County and Area Hospitals

More than 36,000 people have lost their lives after being tested positive for Covid-19 across the UK since the start of the pandemic.

The death toll in the UK is 36,793 according to the latest data from health authorities.

Of this total, 1,592 deaths have been recorded in hospital trusts which serve hospitals in and around Essex.

Data published by the NHS England records the number of deaths and their dates by hospital.

In and around Essex, the highest number of Covid-related deaths have been recorded at the Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospital Trust.

East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust had the second highest number of deaths, 317, while Basildon and Thurrock University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust had the third highest number of deaths, with 265.

The trust covers two main hospitals, the Queen’s Hospital in Romford and the King George Hospital in Goodmayes, as well as clinics in outside northeast London and the services of Barking Hospital.

At the trust, a total of 409 deaths have been recorded, making it the trust with the highest number of deaths in and around the region.

There has been a newly registered death in the past 24 hours at the trust.

Since the data were first released, the hospital has become part of the new Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, in collaboration with the Mid Essex and Southend hospitals.

The newly formed Trust provides care to a population of more than 1.2 million people in central and southern Essex. However, the government still lists them as separate trusts for the numbers.

The main center of operations for this trust is Basildon University Hospital.

Since the data was first collected, Mid Essex has become part of the new Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust.

Working alongside the Basildon and Southend hospitals, the Trust provides care to a population of more than 1.2 million people in central and southern Essex.

The Trust is also a county-wide plastic, head and neck and upper digestive tract (GI) surgery center with a population of 3.4 million and a supraregional burn service for a population of 9.8 million inhabitants.
