Coronavirus cases up 27 in district while three more die at South Tyneside hospital

According to the latest statistics released on Friday, May 1, the number of cases in southern Tyneside has increased by 27, from 538 to 53.

There are now a total of 7,813 confirmed cases of Covid-19 in the region – a daily increase of 261.

The number of people who died after contracting Covid-19 in hospitals served by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust increased from 267 to 270, with three additional deaths recorded since Thursday April 30.

It occurs when the total number of deaths in the Northeast goes from 1,010 to 1,032.

The total number of people who died in England after a positive coronavirus test is now 20,483, a daily increase of 352.

The patients were 30 to 103 years old, 18 of whom – aged 43 to 98 years – had no known underlying health conditions.

North Tees and Hartlepool NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in trust: 74

Number of deaths announced on May 1: 1

South Tees NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in trust: 185

Number of deaths announced on May 1: 5

Newcastle Upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 88

Number of deaths announced on May 1: 1

County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 161

Number of deaths announced on May 1: 1

Gateshead Health NHS Foundation Trust

Total number of deaths in the trust: 107

Number of deaths announced on April 30: 3
