China reports 14 new coronavirus cases, high-risk areas resurface

BEIJING, May 10 (Reuters) – The National Health Commission of China reported 14 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on May 9, the highest since April 28 and up from just one the day before, according to data released Sunday.

Of the new cases, two were imported infections. The other 12 confirmed cases were transmitted locally, including 11 cases in the northeast province of Jilin.

According to the health commission, the newly discovered asymptomatic cases were at 20, the highest since May 1 and from 15 the day before.

No new deaths have been reported, the statement said.

The total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country reached 82,901 as of May 9, while the total number of deaths from the virus was 4,633, the report said.

Shilan City’s coronavirus risk level increased from medium to high on Sunday after a group of 11 cases was confirmed in Shulan on Sunday.

The move came after all regions of China were considered low risk on Thursday.
