A young victim is the first pediatric victim of the virus in Arizona
YUMA, Arizona (KYMA, KECY) – Tragic news Thursday from the Yuma County Health District (YCHD). Health officials have confirmed the second death in the county due to a coronavirus, and say the last victim was a child.
This is the first time the virus has taken the life of a child in Arizona.
Yuma County does not release further information on the death of the child, except to say that the child suffered from multiple serious underlying health conditions.

“It is our greatest regret to share the news of the first pediatric death related to COVID-19 in Arizona,” said Diana Gomez, director of the public health district of Yuma County.
“Information like this resonates not only within the health community, but with all residents. We are heartbroken and express our deepest sympathy to the child’s friends and family. To protect the family’s privacy during this incredibly difficult time, no further information concerning the child will be released. “
There are currently 157 cases in Yuma County, the death toll now being 2.
