OTTAWA –
Frustration grows in Canada’s veteran community as many disabled veterans continue to wait for federal support and benefits as the government rushes to approve millions of requests for assistance related to COVID-19.

Veterans and their supporters have asked Ottawa to automatically approve approximately 44,000 outstanding requests from Veterans Affairs Canada, a request the federal government has rejected so far.

Yet many are now wondering why the government is refusing to act following reports that federal officials have been asked to approve payments through the Canada Emergency Benefit, even if fraud or fraud is suspected. ‘abuse.

Although Veterans Affairs Canada says that the purpose and legal requirements for CERB are different from its disability benefit programs, there is concern that the backlog is about to worsen as the pandemic creates new barriers to processing requests.

Veterans’ growing frustration comes as Canada takes a new step today, with more than half of the country’s 76,193 confirmed COVID-19 cases listed as recovered.

More than 5,700 people died from respiratory illness.
