Bruno Fernandes and Paul Scholes Comparatives Rejected by Man Utd Coach Michael Carrick

Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick says it is “a little unfair” to compare Bruno Fernandes to his old Old Trafford teammate Paul Scholes.

United fans made the comparison during Fernande’s early months in English football, where he impressed by wearing Scholes’ old No. 18 jersey for the Red Devils.

The current coronavirus shutdown has meant that the Portuguese star has been forced to sit on the sidelines with the rest of his United teammates for a number of weeks, with the Premier League confident that games can resume by mid- June.

But despite the growing hype around Fernandes, Carrick – who is a United first team coach these days and so well placed to judge – downplayed the desire to make comparisons between the club’s new playmaker and his former.

Fernandes impressed during his first weeks at United

“He has great qualities,” said Carrick to MUTV’s YouTube channel.

“I think it’s a little unfair in some ways to compare him to Scholesy, for the two.

“They’re both individuals and sometimes it’s a little too easy to tag someone to a former player. Bruno is his own player and has great qualities.

“He made such a difference and it can be a difficult club to integrate and have a big impact on right away.

Carrick says pair shouldn’t be compared

“It can take time for some players to integrate and get used to their surroundings, as it can be intimidating. But it is exactly what we were looking for.

“The timing was right. He has an eye for a pass and what I like about him is that he’s not taken aback to give it.

“Even if it happens, he will return. He had a huge influence. “
