Despite the persistent threat of the Covid-19 pandemic, the borders of the United Kingdom still face threats from migrants entering the country illegally. Search and Hunter Border Force ships were involved.

BBC journalist Simon Jones tweeted: “17 migrants – including a baby and five children – were picked up by French authorities and returned to France after their boat broke down in the English Channel off Calais this morning.

“Several boats have managed to reach the UK.”

Last week, a record 150 migrants crammed into 10 tiny canoes were intercepted in the English Channel while trying to cross early in the morning.

They were taken ashore by border force ships after being spotted near Dover.
