Ben Shephard wished Kate Garraway a happy birthday as he updated GMB viewers about her husband Derek Draper’s condition while he continued to fight the coronavirus.
The 45-year-old TV presenter appeared in the show on Monday after taking over from Piers Morgan, who self-isolated after showing symptoms of the disease.
Wishing Kate a happy 53rd birthday, Ben did his best and said that Kate and her family “kept everything in check” so that her other half could continue to fight COVID-19.

“I’m sure Darcey and Billy have a cake or something, but we send lots and lots of love.
Susanna Reid, who co-hosted the show with him, added, “Yes, great love for you and your family, of course. “
Update: On her husband, Ben said, “She’s with her family and makes everything cross, obviously, because Derek is still seriously ill but we just want to say happy birthday, Kate”

Kate shared a cheering Instagram video with her family on Thursday evening, writing that they have “so much to be thankful for tonight.”

Hours after its appearance on Friday morning, GMB co-hosts Ben and Ranvir Singh made yet another update and revealed that 52-year-old former Blair advisor Derek is still unresponsive.

Last month, Ben revealed that Derek was in an intensive care coma after contracting the virus.
Last week, Kate shared another heartbreaking update with fans on her Club Garraway Wellbeing website, thanking them for their messages of support.

The presenter praised NHS staff for the incredible care they provided to her husband while he was in “deeply critical condition”.
Kate wrote: “You may have seen in the past week that my husband Derek was seriously ill in hospital with COVID-19.
“I am afraid he will remain in a very critical condition and be very sick, but he is still alive so there is hope.
“This remains an extremely worrying time for all of us and the past two weeks have been the most difficult of my life.

Kate once again congratulated NHS staff for their incredible work in caring for her husband and thanked her fans for sending their own wishes.
She added, “From the bottom of my heart, a billion thanks to the extraordinary NHS workers whose skills, dedication and guts in the face of so much personal risk keep my Derek alive, just as they are for thousands other COVID patients
“Send so much love and support to the thousands of people who have had this hope for their loved ones robbed by this hideous disease. You are not alone and I hope this will give you the strength to resist the torture of grief.
“I wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who sent me such wonderful messages, wishing Derek good luck. It meant the world to me.
