The COVID-19 pandemic resulted in the dismissal of 3% of its employees by Baylor Scott & White Health.
Baylor made the announcement on Tuesday.
In addition to the layoffs, they will lay off a number of other workers, temporarily cut executive salaries and leave vacancies.
In a statement to NBC DFW, a spokesperson for Baylor said:
“Throughout the pandemic, we have focused on the safety and well-being of our patients and our team members. From the start, we decided to protect the wages of all employees until the end of May, and recently extended until June 7. We have tried to reassure and protect our population in uncertainty as we prepare for a potential increase in the number of patients with COVID-19, while experiencing a drastic drop in visits, mainly due to the suspension of elective surgeries and procedures. “
The job cuts announced on Tuesday appear to be the deepest in Baylor’s history, a spokesperson said. The Dallas Morning News.
