While Hollywood productions are still closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, producers of Avatar revealed that the next series will resume production next week in New Zealand.
“Our #Avatar the sets are ready – and we couldn’t be more excited to return to New Zealand next week, “producer Jon Landau wrote on Instagram on Friday.
Avatar 2 would be the first major film to resume production since the closure began, Variety reports. This is partly due to New Zealand’s widely lauded response to the coronavirus pandemic, which included blockages, travel bans and aggressive testing and contact tracing. As a result, the island nation’s television and film productions were given the green light to resume work.
Now, despite the judgment, Avatar 2 is still scheduled for release on December 17, 2021. Director James Cameron is said to have filmed the four sequels simultaneously, with the third, fourth and fifth films scheduled for December 2023, December 2025 and December 2027.
Amazon under construction the Lord of the Rings Television series – like its predecessor on the big screen – were also in production in New Zealand when the pandemic broke out, but it is not known when this production will resume.
