Anderson Silva throws his name in the hat for a potential fight with Conor McGregor.
“The Notorious” went on social media earlier this week to debate who is the greatest MMA fighter of all time, having “The Spider” sitting at number 1. It didn’t take long for the Brazilian to launch again a respectful challenge to the Irish superstar.
“I have a great admiration for the great athlete who is Conor and I think that this great fight would be something historic for the sport, none of us has anything else to prove,” wrote Silva in Portuguese. “I think fans of the UFC and (MMA) would love to watch this great martial show, testing my martial skills against it would be fantastic. “
Silva suggested the contest go down to a catch weight of 176.37 pounds (80 kg).
This is not the first time that Silva has expressed an interest in facing McGregor. The former UFC middleweight champion first spoke to the media in 2016, and said on his Instagram two years later to say “it would be an honor” to face the former holder of the UFC featherweight and lightweight title.
“The UFC wants super fights, I’m sure fans around the world want to see this fight,” wrote Silva a few days before McGregor fought Khabib Nurmagomedov for the 155-pound belt at UFC 229 in 2018. .
“Professionally, I think it would be amazing to test my martial arts skills with a fighter like Conor McGregor in a real super fight. He is now focusing on the fight against Khabib Nurmagomedov, after this fight, I am ready to take up this challenge. When and where he wants. ”
Silva again mentioned McGregor as a possible opponent in February 2019, moments after losing to Israel Adesanya. “The Spider” had knee surgery earlier this month to repair an injury he suffered against Jared Cannonier in May 2019. McGregor, on the other hand, has just won a knockout victory in the first round against Donald Cerrone.
