Liverpool have had incredible managers over the years, each remembering their own reasons.

For all those on the hot seat, the tensions and pressures are surely high, but the reward for getting the right job is clear with the way those who are successful are remembered years later.

The time between Rafael Benitez from Anfield and today is almost twice as long as the time he actually spent in the Liverpool dugout, but there are still banners on the Kop announcing his greatest achievement in Istanbul.

Make a list of the best managers in Liverpool history, and three names probably come to mind first.

Bill Shankly has won three first division titles with Liverpool, while his successor Bob Paisley has won six, as well as three European Cups, exactly half the club’s current total.

Sir Kenny Dalglish, meanwhile, has won nine championship titles as a player and manager at Anfield, and 33 trophies in all.

Jurgen Klopp still has a long way to go before reaching that total, but by winning a first Premier League title in 30 years, plus a sixth European Cup in Madrid last year, he made a very good start for achieve legendary status.

Since the team he inherited languished in 10th place in the Premier League standings upon his arrival, the transformative powers of the German certainly cannot be questioned.

Ian Doyle said on the Blood Red podcast, “How do you judge a manager?” In terms of tactics, has anyone been better than Benitez for Liverpool? Probably not.

“Has anyone been better than Shankly to motivate the fans?” Probably not. Has anyone been better at just putting together a team and building a team than Paisley? Probably not.

“They all have their attributes. What’s interesting is that I mentioned three things that Klopp could end up being. He certainly did at least one and a half.

“There is an argument that if he stays and wins more things, Klopp could end up being the best manager in Liverpool history.

“Given the team he has taken on and the battles he has had to win, he has just won everyone by being a success. “

“No one complains if you win. “
