Alistair Overeem arrests Walt Harris with high kick and punches | UFC on ESPN 8


Yet another major event canned by the global pandemic, Walt Harris against Alistair Overeem finally met this evening (Saturday May 16, 2020) from inside the Vystar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, at the UFC on ESPN 8. There were plenty on the line for the two men, as Overeem sought to bounce back from a disappointing loss, while Harris was trying to come back from a personal tragedy and climb up for the title ‘one shot.

It turned out to be a very entertaining main event. Overeem recovered from a brutal knockout to use his own attacking skills and score a knockout victory in the second round.

First round

Harris shows the jab to start. Harris absorbs a big spinning kick in the middle of the section. Two huge left hands just barely miss Overeem’s chin. Overrem is rocked by a left hand and Harris jumps on it! Harris stands above him, dropping absolute hammers! Either way, Overeem survives, using an attempt to lock the legs to get back on his feet. Overeem is back on his feet in close combat, covered in blood. Harris strikes forward and lands to the left, but falls after a kick! Overeem capitalizes and lands on top in lateral control. Overeem momentarily wraps a gift wrap before attaching the wrist. Overeem begins to drop punches from a rear mounting position. Harris is very stuck and bloody with one minute remaining. As Harris returns to his feet, he eats heavy knees.

Second round

Overeem lands first in the second with a glance in the air. The two men look a little tired as Harris shoots. Inside the low kick scores for Overeem. Seconds later, Overeem climbs high with a high kick that shakes Harris, and a heavy right hand sends him to the mat. Overeem jumped on his back, tying his wrist again as he struck his opponent with head shots. When Overeem got his second hook, he was able to flatten Harris. Overeem continued to strike his trapped opponent, forcing the referee to call the bout.
