After an epidemic in a Hollywood store, Ralphs begins testing employees

LOS ANGELES (KABC) – After an epidemic of COVID-19 among employees at a Hollywood store, Ralphs said he offered tests to his employees. Los Angeles County health officials reported Friday that 21 employees were positive for COVID-19 at “Rock and Roll Ralphs” at 7257 W. Sunset Blvd. at Hollywood.

The results sparked protests from union workers outside the supermarket to demand greater protections. The grocery chain now says it will offer employees tests based on symptoms and medical needs. Testing is expected to begin in mid-May, using a combination of home test kits and test sites.

A spokesperson for the company also said the store has been closed for deep cleaning three times in recent weeks. The company also requires employees to wear masks and install transparent screens to create a barrier between customers and employees.

Customers say they are satisfied to see more tests.

“Everyone should be tested,” said Ralph’s client Andrew Schlessinger. “There should be no shame. We need extensive testing if we are to be able to regain some semblance of normality. “
