A woman and a young boy drowned in a swimming pool at the home of former Los Angeles Dodgers player Carl Crawford on Saturday afternoon.

Crawford was hosting a six-person rally at his Houston, Texas home around 2:40 p.m. when the tragic incident happened.

Police told the Houston Chronicle that the boy was five years old and that he was in the backyard pool when he began to have trouble breathing.

A 25-year-old woman then jumped into the pool to try to save the boy.

Neither the woman nor the boy was able to exit the pool and did not respond when the first responders arrived.

TMZ reported that Crawford attempted to resuscitate them before the authorities arrived, but without success.

Houston police said the victims were taken to the hospital where they were pronounced dead.

It is unknown what the relationship was between Crawford and the victims, or between the woman and the boy.

Sources told TMZ that the woman was looking after the boy that day.

Fox 26 reported that forensic teams and police were still in Crawford’s office late Saturday evening.

Gatherings under the age of 10 are currently permitted under the Houston Home Stay Order.
