YNW Melly has tested positive for the coronavirus while awaiting trial in Broward County Prison in Florida, the rapper’s Instagram account confirmed on Thursday April 2.
“He will file a request for a limited release in the hope of better care because of any prison that is not ready to deal with this new virus,” says a publication with a photo of his family. “He hopes for your support and to quickly recover #prayformelly send him positive energy please.” “
Melly pleaded not guilty to a double charge of murder in March 2019, a few months after the fatal shootings of her two “best friends” Christopher “Juvy” Thomas Jr. and Anthony “Sak” Williams.
The rapper is not the only incarcerated citizen to shed light on the lack of adequate health systems in prisons. As recently as last week, R. Kelly made a speech to be released from the Chicago Metropolitan Correctional Center on bail, citing fear of contracting the fast-spreading virus. Bill Cosby made a similar request, asking to be placed under house arrest for the remainder of his sentence.
Earlier today, 6ix9ine became a free man after being released from compassionate care by a New York judge following the coronavirus outbreak. He will be under house arrest for the next four months on probation.
