MLB reportedly discussed plan for all teams to play in Arizona
Putting the 30 teams in the Phoenix area and playing on empty soccer fields was part of the ideas discussed on Monday by Major League Baseball and the players’ association.
The parties held a phone call to discuss the pathways for a season delayed by the new coronavirus pandemic, people familiar with the discussion told The Associated Press. They spoke on condition of anonymity because no details were announced.
The ideas are still at an early stage and the Arizona option would have many hurdles to overcome, people said.
“It allows for the immediacy of a schedule, where you might be able to start it and broadcast it, providing Major League Baseball in America,” said Scott Boras, the most prominent baseball agent. “I think the players are ready to do what is necessary because I think they understand the importance of baseball for their own livelihood and for the benefit of our country and by providing a necessary product that gives all those who are isolated a pleasure. “
New Zealand Minister of Health demoted after going to beach during lockout
WELLINGTON, New Zealand – The New Zealand Minister of Health has described himself as an “idiot” and has been stripped of his responsibilities after breaking the country’s strict lock-in measures.
David Cook traveled about 12 miles to the beach to go for a walk with his family. He said that at a time when the government was asking New Zealanders to make historic sacrifices while staying at home, it had let them down.
“I have been an idiot and I understand why people will be mad at me,” he said in a statement.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said that under normal circumstances, she would sack Clark. But she said the country could not afford a massive disruption in its health sector while it was fighting the virus. Instead, she said, she deprived Clark of his role as assistant finance minister and demoted him to the bottom of the cabinet rankings.
New Zealand is midway through a planned four-week lockdown to minimize the spread of the virus.
USNS Comfort crew member positive
A crew member aboard the Navy hospital ship, the USNS Comfort, which was sent to New York to help with the coronavirus epidemic in the region, has tested positive for COVID-19.
The Navy said in a statement that the crew member tested positive on Monday and that he was isolated from other crews or any patient.
“There is no impact on Comfort’s mission, and it will not affect Comfort’s ability to receive patients,” said the Navy.
USNS Comfort, with a capacity of about 1,000 beds, was originally supposed to take non-viral patients to help local hospitals treat cases associated with the epidemic, but on Monday, Governor and President Donald Trump said he would take COVID- 19 patients. Trump has said he will also take patients from New Jersey.
