WHO head warns that the worst virus is yet to come

GENEVA – The head of the World Health Organization has warned that “the worst is yet to come” in the coronavirus epidemic, triggering new alarm bells about the pandemic, just as many countries are starting to relax restrictive measures.

WHO director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has not clarified exactly why he believes the epidemic that has infected nearly 2.5 million people and killed more than 166,000 people, according to figures compiled by l Johns Hopkins University could get worse. Some people, however, have pointed out the likely future spread of the disease in Africa, where health systems are much less developed.

Tedros alluded to the so-called Spanish flu in 1918 as a reference for the coronavirus epidemic.
