Amazon may be delaying its biggest shopping day of the year. A new Reuters report says the online giant is considering postponing its Prime Day event due to coronavirus problems. Amazon has not yet commented on the report, although the article suggests that the annual business event could be delayed until at least August, if not later in the year.
Amazon launched Prime Day in 2015 as a one-day trading event, with the online merchant and its merchants reducing the prices of thousands of items on the site. Generally organized in July, Prime Day has since extended to 48 hours of transactions, members of Amazon Prime having early access. Amazon claims that Prime Day 2019 sales exceeded the previous Black Friday and Cyber Monday combined, with Prime members purchasing more than 175 million items during the event.
It should be noted that Amazon usually only reveals the date of the first day a week or two in advance, although it was always in mid-July, to encourage purchases during the summer months. often slower.
Amazon typically releases its family of Alexa-enabled devices and smart home accessories during Prime Day. Last year’s bestsellers included the Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick 4K, both of which had dropped in price. It is not clear whether Amazon will hold inventory and discounts until a new date is announced for the First Day 2020, or whether these devices will go on sale before that date.
Reuters says Amazon now has “five million more devices it plans to sell sooner,” citing internal memo to executives, explaining “potential $ 100 million in excess devices it could now sell at a discount. “
A quick search on the site shows a number of offers on Amazon devices. The Echo Dot (3rd generation) is available for $ 59.99 right now, and Amazon also has a plan that gives you both the Echo Dot and the Fire TV Stick 4K for $ 79.98.
Other current offers: the popular Ring Video Doorbell 2 is on sale now for $ 169.99 (regularly $ 199.99). Amazon’s best-selling Fire 7 tablet, meanwhile (pictured above), is on sale for $ 49.99.
With the date for Prime Day 2020 still to be determined, Amazon says the best way to guarantee current deals and get the latest deals right now is to be a member of Amazon Prime. The site currently offers a 30-day free trial of Amazon Prime, which includes unlimited access to Prime Video, free books via Prime Reading, and free music streaming via Amazon Music Unlimited.
