One of the two VIA Rail employees who tested positive for COVID-19 worked on a train in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
The rail carrier announced the two confirmed cases on Sunday and said they have not been at work since they started developing symptoms last month.
The employee who worked on the train has been at home since March 15, while the other employee who works at the Montreal ticket office has been on leave since March 22.
“The health and safety of our employees is our number one priority,” said VIA Rail in a statement. “We immediately took the appropriate action. We stay in close communication with our employees and give them all the support they need to recover in the best possible conditions. “
The carrier did not explicitly specify where the employee worked in the Quebec City-Windsor corridor.
He also said that he was adjusting his operations in the aftermath of the pandemic by deploying strict sanitary measures on trains, at stations, maintenance centers and call centers.
