University of Pittsburgh medical center to discuss possible coronavirus vaccine

PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (WJW) – There is currently no treatment or vaccine for COVID-19, but we expect to learn more about progress in this area on Thursday.

The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) reports that it will hold an update on a potential vaccine on Thursday morning.

They made the announcement on Twitter Wednesday evening.

According to Paul Duprex, director of vaccine research at the University of Pittsburgh, 35 vaccine candidates are being researched.

Duprex said a vaccine would not be available for at least a year.

Scientists say there are more than 200 clinical trials underway around the world to find a treatment.
