One in four residents of a Bobcaygeon nursing home died in the COVID-19 outbreak.

Dr. Michelle Snarr confirmed Thursday that two other residents of the Pinecrest Nursing Home died overnight, bringing the number to 16.

As feared, outbreaks of the dangerous coronavirus are wreaking havoc among vulnerable seniors in long-term care.

Eight residents of Toronto’s Seven Oaks long-term care facility have died and deaths have been reported in other facilities for the aged.

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Ontario rose to 2,793 on Thursday, up 401 or 16% in one day.

Ontario public health officials say there are 53 laboratory-confirmed deaths, a one-day increase from 16, although these figures do not reflect the most recent cases.

The province says 831 people have recovered from COVID-19.
