The man and woman both worked at St Luke’s Hospital in Kilkenny.
The middle-aged staff members have recently fallen ill.
The man, a care assistant in his forties, was the first to visit his home on Tuesday, April 14.
The woman, a 50-year-old domestic worker, unfortunately died in hospital today, April 15.
The two health workers had children.
A spokesperson for the Ireland East Hospital Group told independent.ie: “We can confirm that two precious staff members died at St Luke’s hospital.
“We cannot comment on the staff individually.
“We are deeply saddened by their passing. “
The two employees who were employed as hospital support staff were members of SIPTU and are deeply saddened by their colleagues and friends.
SIPTU health organizer Paul Bell said, “We offer our sincere condolences to the families and friends of our two deceased members.
“The colleagues of these two workers and the members and staff of the Union’s health division are deeply shocked by their deaths.
“These two workers made the ultimate sacrifice while participating in the fight against the Covid-19 virus. “
