In an unusual start to the White House daily coronavirus briefing, President Donald Trump announced a new focus on drug cartels. Trump was joined by Attorney General William Barr, Defense Secretary Mark Esper and senior military officials who did not appear to be affected by the social distancing. The President announced the dispatch of navy vessels to Venezuela as the United States steps up its counter-narcotics operations. Trump touted link between drug trafficking and coronavirus: “As governments and nations focus on the coronavirus, there is a growing threat that cartels, criminals, terrorists and other malicious actors are attempting to exploit the situation for their own profit.
