TOKYO – Toyota plans to restart limited production at its factories in France and Poland from April 22 after they close due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Toyota had suspended production from mid-March in France, Great Britain, the Czech Republic, Poland, Turkey and Portugal.

Toyota builds the small Yaris sedan in its factory in Valenciennes, France. The factory will also add a Yaris-based SUV slated for spring 2021.

In Poland, the automaker produces engines and transmissions in Walbrzych and diesel and petrol engines in Jelcz-Laskowice.

Toyota said most of the other factories in Europe, North America, Latin America and Asia will remain closed for the time being.

TPCA, a joint venture of Toyota and PSA, extended production shutdown until May

The earliest start date for the reopening of factories in the UK and Turkey is May 4, Financial times reported.
