Being trapped inside is a disappointment. Being stuck inside because there is a global pandemic and being within six feet of someone else could make matters worse? Well, it’s even more disappointing. If you are isolating yourself in a rural area or a small town, it can be easy to get some nature every day, but millions of people locked up in big cities don’t really have that option.

As someone who works from home anyway, virus or no virus, I have found that being stuck inside doesn’t necessarily mean you have to give up your love of the great outdoors. Let me introduce you to the world of live cameras.

Many of these live streams are maintained by wildlife and conservation organizations and function as a means of monitoring certain species. Others are created just for fun by nature lovers who want to share their passion with the Internet in general. Many streams are part of the EXPLORE.org network, which presents itself as the largest network of live cameras on nature.

There are so, so many of these types of live streams that it would be impossible to list them all, but here are a handful of my favorites:

Breakfast with eagles

I like to start my morning with this family of bald eagles. A pair of adults and a trio of chicks provide a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere. You can see the adults feeding their young and beautiful views from several angles at the top of the trees.

Spoonbill

This swamp hideaway is a little more active, with lots of sights and sounds to absorb. If you need a lift and a little energy at noon, listening to these spatulas howl and howl with the rest of the wildlife at St. Augustine’s Alligator Farm Zoo will wake you up immediately. If you’re lucky, you might even spot the alligators patrolling the shore.

Dashing Ducks

Dashing Ducks live streaming is both relaxing and interactive. All kinds of ducks hang out here during the day and at night, and by donating only 50 Twitch Bits (the equivalent of about 50 cents), you can activate the autoloader and send the ducks to rush for a midday treat. . It’s awesome.

Friendly fish

Yet another incredibly relaxing stream, this false tropical reef is alive with a multitude of fish species. There is always something to see, and the occasional presentation by divers will teach you about the different species.

Cozy kittens

At the other end of the spectrum, the kitten rescue camera is a real cold. The live feed of these often sleeping kittens is probably the most comfortable place on YouTube, and if you don’t have pets, it’s an easy way to enjoy some feline hijinks without worrying about cleaning up. a litter box.
