The 75th United States Open is the last major championship to be postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but golf fans will not have to wait for new dates to be announced.

On Friday, after the announcement of the postponement, the USGA also announced that the Champions Golf Club of Houston, Texas, will host the event from December 10 to 13. The club was originally scheduled to host June 4 and 7.

It will be the first time that a major women’s championship has been contested in December.

This is the third female major of the year to be postponed. The ANA inspiration was originally scheduled to be played this week, but has been moved from September 10 to 13. The Evian Championship was moved back two weeks from August 6 to 9.

Originally scheduled for July 23-26, the Evian Championship moves from August 6 to 9, the LPGA and LET announced on Friday.

With the reduction of daylight hours in the new dates for the US Women’s Open in December, the USGA plans to play the first two rounds on the courses of Club Jackrabbit and Cypress Creek. The last two rounds will be played on the Cypress Creek course.

Qualifying dates for the US Women’s Open will be extended, with the possibility of new locations.

The USGA is also examining the possibility of changing the exemption categories.

“The USGA remains committed to hosting the US Women’s Open in 2020,” said USGA CEO Mike Davis. “We are grateful to the LPGA and our broadcast partner Fox for their tremendous collaboration in finding a new date for the championship. Our priority remains to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the US Women’s Open, while providing the best players in the world with the opportunity to compete this year. “

The last date a female major has ever finished is November 28. Kathy Whitworth won the title on that date in 1965.

The average high temperature in Houston in mid-December is 65 degrees. There is almost four hours less daylight in mid-December than in June in Houston.
