Foreign Minister François-Philippe Champagne said Canadian passengers on the cruise ship Coral Princess are expected to return home today after undergoing a health check.
Champagne tweeted that Canadians with no symptoms of COVID-19 will be allowed to disembark from the ship in Florida and take a Holland America chartered flight.
The minister says they will be checked again upon arrival and subjected to a mandatory 14-day self-isolation period.
Yesterday, some passengers were allowed to leave the ship, but the Canadians were not among them, due to new guidelines from the United States Centers for Disease Control.
These guidelines stipulated that cruise lines should not board commercial flights, which means that only those with charter flights can disembark.
