The Chase has recruited a new quiz in the series in the form of former popular competitor Darragh Ennis.

According to The Mirror, the Irish man will be announced as the show’s sixth hunter, where he will fight teams to stop them from earning money.

Darragh is the first new Chaser since Jenny Ryan joined the series in 2015, with a source explaining to the publication that his signing is a “big deal”.

An insider said, “Darragh has what it takes to be a hunter, he has been tested and passed with flying colors.

“They don’t bring new members to The Chase regularly, so it’s a big deal for the series and Darragh. Viewers will be very interested to see how he is doing.

“The show is so popular with spin-offs now too, so there is a need to increase the team. No one is leaving, Darragh is really part of the team. “

Darragh, who is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford, appeared on The Chase as a candidate in March 2017.

He cashed in an impressive £ 9,000 during the episode, but his teammates accepted the lower offers, which reduced the fund to £ 2,700.

Fans of the series felt that Darragh deserved more and the hashtag #JusticeForDarragh was trending on Twitter, with some fans even launching a Go Fund Me to raise funds.

This comes after The Chase host Bradley Walsh hinted that the show may have a new hunter in an interview with Radio Times last November.

He said, “We are doing more and more shows all the time, so we have to recruit more people all the time.

“So, therefore, we have tested our means to find other suitable people, and everything will be revealed next year.

When asked if he meant more than one new Chaser could join the team, Bradley said, “It could be more than one, who knows. But it’s a real jolt. “

The Chase sees the contestants play against a professional quiz, known as the Chaser, which tries to stop them from winning a cash prize.

A team of four candidates tries to raise as much money as possible which is then added to a prize fund if the candidate survives their pursuit.

Hunters are responsible for trying to catch up with competitors in their individual rounds, preventing money from being added to the price.

The current hunters in the series are Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha and Jenny Ryan.
