NBC to pay tribute to Brian Dennehy tonight with a special episode of The black list.

The beloved actor, who died on Wednesday, returned as Dominic Wilkinson, the father of the infamous Russian spy Katarina Rostova (Lotte Verbeek) and the grandfather of Elizabeth Keen, played by Megan Boone, in the series with James Spader and Boone. The network has adjusted its schedule to rebroadcast the episode “Rassvet” (Dawn), which originally aired on April 26, 2019, at 9 p.m. tonight. It will follow a new episode produced by Sony TV The black list at 20 hours. Dateline NBC, which normally broadcasts from 9 p.m. to 11 p.m., will broadcast an hour-long episode at 10 p.m.

The pivotal episode of “Rassvet” delved into the story of Dennehy’s character, Dominic Wilkinson, and his relationship with his daughter, Katarina Rostova (Verbeek). Much of the episode has taken place in the past with an emphasis on the show’s mythology, with no regular weekly “blacklist” cases.

The episode’s synopsis: “Alone in a foreign country after a mission that goes awry, Katarina Rostova (Verbeek) flees to avoid forces trying to track her down. Isolated and without options, she seeks the only person she trusts, a man who has sworn to always protect her. “

As Deadline reported on Thursday, The black list was Dennehy’s last television role. Episode 19, in which Dennehy was, was the last episode of season 22 of 22 episodes shot before production closed due to the coronavirus epidemic. NBC plans to pay tribute to Dennehy with a card at the end of this episode, which will now serve as the season finale.

Dennehy joined The black list in season 3. He had played in nine episodes to date, including two this season.
