Teksavvy asks CRTC to lower Internet rates despite COVID-19 crisis

TekSavvy Solutions Inc. requests that the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission reduce rates for independent Internet service providers faced with challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Chatham, Ontario-based company says independent ISPs are already paying inflated fees to large Canadian carriers, but pressures from COVID-19 have made these costs unmanageable.

TekSavvy has previously argued that these rates should be lower and has asked its customers to urge the CRTC to act and request an investigation from the Competition Bureau.

He said independent ISPs should not be hindered in providing Internet services during the pandemic.

The company is concerned that if the CRTC does not intervene, its larger competitors could gain benefits for their retail services by unevenly applying more stringent COVID-19 procedures.

TekSavvy has more than 300,000 customers across Canada.
