Sudbury Public Health Announces City’s First COVID-19 Death


Public Health Sudbury and Districts reports two new cases of COVID-19, one of whom has died.

The deceased is a 70 year old male from Greater Sudbury. Out of respect for the family, no other information is shared.

The other individual, also from Greater Sudbury, is a man in his 50s. Both have a history of international travel.

“I am deeply saddened by this loss of life and, as a united, compassionate and connected community, we extend our deepest condolences to family and friends,” said Dr. Penny Sutcliffe, Sudbury and district medical officer of health .

“More than ever, we need to be able to reach out and count on each other despite our critical need to keep a physical distance from each other.

“This grim event underscores the gravity of the situation we face. We must all take the steps necessary to stay safe. Each of us has an obligation to our loved ones, neighbors and community to do our part to limit the spread of COVID-19. We know that COVID-19 is spreading in our community. We know lives are at stake. ”

The man in his 50s is the 18th case of COVID-19 in Sudbury and is currently self-insulating.
