Figures show that 242 people died in hospitals covered by South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust on Saturday April 25.

In total, 905 people who tested positive for coronavirus died in hospital trusts in the Northeast.

Saturday, 43 additional deaths were announced in the region.

This is the origin of the coronavirus and when it started

The number of confirmed cases in the borough rose to 464 on Saturday, with an increasing number from 226 to 6,772 in the Northeast.

Nationally, the NHS England confirmed on Saturday that another 711 people who tested positive for the coronavirus died, bringing the total number of confirmed deaths reported in hospitals in England to 18,084.

The patients were between 34 and 100 years old. Eighty-seven of 711 patients, ages 34 to 90, had no known underlying health conditions.

According to the latest figures released Saturday by Public Health England, there are 6,772 confirmed cases in the North East as follows:

Of the 21 deaths recorded as of Wednesday April 1, 17 have been treated in Sunderland and four in South Tyneside.
