Fans of Greta Gerwig’s “Little Women” adaptation in 2019 made social buzz this week after eagle-eyed viewers discovered two bottles of water left on the scene where the sisters from March are visiting Laurence House for the first time. The water bottles are reminiscent of a similar blunder in the final season of “Game of Thrones” where a cup of Starbucks coffee appeared in an episode. The scene “Little Women” in question presents both a goblet for cold drinks and a plastic bottle on the tables behind Timothée Chalamet.
While it is surprising that viewers did not spot the bottles of water earlier, it is even more shocking Gerwig and his cast did not notice the bottles when they broke the scene during a video interview for Vanity Fair last December. The interview on “Notes on a Scene” featured the director speaking of the scene with Saoirse Ronan, Laura Dern and Chalamet. Gerwig said the March sisters meeting in Laurence’s office was one of the scenes she was most proud of in the film because of the number of characters she juggles in one frame.
“This is one of those scenes where I have everyone in the scene at the same time and here they start to come in,” said Gerwig. “It sounds really boring to say, because obviously, but I’m really proud of how this scene was blocked. It is really difficult to block scenes with so many people and to understand all the ways in which they move. I could only do this because they memorized their lines so precisely. It was one of those scenes that looks like a transfer of hot potato. “
“We blocked it and rehearsed it like a dance for maybe an hour and a half,” added Ronan of the scene. “And then we left and they set up the stage and we shot all day. “
Gerwig’s “Little Women” was released at Christmas by Sony Pictures and became a worldwide hit with $ 206 million at the box office worldwide. “Little Women” also won six Oscar nominations earlier this year, including one for best picture, and won the Oscar for best costume design. The next step for Gerwig is to write the film “Barbie” by Margot Robbie with her partner Noah Baumbach.
