The singer, 56, and Simon, 60, were officially a couple in the 80s and 90s.
But she hinted at other times that they were closer than just friends, before Lauren had Eric in 2014.
When asked “when did you and Simon finally quit smoking,” Sinitta told New Magazine, “There was always an element of ‘well, it’s never really over.’
“But when Eric was born, that was it. I would never come between his family.
” [Lauren] and I was best friends. I am really happy for them, but it was difficult and caused repercussions.
“I love Eric and he wouldn’t be there if it wasn’t for them. “
It comes after Sinitta said it was her “psychic connection” with Simon that helped her defeat the coronavirus after contracting the virus during a nightclub performance.
She says she decided not to worry about Simon after falling ill, but that he instinctively called her.
She told the Sunday Mirror, “I got the virus after doing a club concert.
“The next day, I felt like I was swallowing a bunch of razor blades. I was in bed for about a week. I didn’t tell Simon I was sick, but it didn’t take long before he got in touch.
“We talk quite often. I didn’t call because I didn’t want him to worry – I thought, “Well, he can’t do anything.” ”
Sinitta, whose success in So Macho in 1986 was Simon’s first pop hit, added: “When he was successful, Simon said,” You got it [the virus] you? “And I said,” How do you know? ”
“He said,” I knew it. I could just say it because you disappeared. I knew you didn’t want to worry. “

“He said, ‘We have this strange connection, I can just tell when something is wrong. ”
Simon sent a private health team to see her and even made sure her mother and children were kept safe.
