OTTAWA –
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh Says He Wants Government To Remove All Criteria For Canadian Emergency Response Benefit To Allow Any Canadian In Financial Difficulty Due To COVID-19 To Be Eligible For Benefits .

Singh says he heard from many Canadians who do not qualify for the emergency benefits program, which opened this week, including those still earning a low income, students and the unemployed before the start of the pandemic.

Singh says he is in negotiations with the Liberals and has received assurances from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the program’s shortcomings will be closed.

But the leader of the NDP says that Trudeau could go even further and remove all the criteria to ensure that anyone who needs help can apply.

Singh says the NDP will support the Liberal wage subsidy bill to help businesses suffering from the COVID-19 downturn, which will be debated at a special session of Parliament today.
