Simona Halep’s home routine is a lot like yours

Bucharest, Romania – At her home in Bucharest for 22 days already and that counts, former world No. 1 Simona Halep is like the rest of us who stay indoors during the global coronavirus pandemic.

Halep composed Eurosport Tennis Legends vodcast to chat with Mats Wilander, Boris Becker and Tommy Haas about what she’s done while the season is on break – and she has revealed what her surprisingly comparable daily routine looks like.

“I was preparing a week before closing everything,” recalls Halep on Tennis Legends. The Romanian had withdrawn from BNP Paribas Open with a persistent foot injury and was preparing for the Miami Open when she learned that neither of the two tournaments would take place due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“I couldn’t play Indian Wells because I was injured, but I was so sad to hear the news that everything was going to be canceled because of this situation …”

” [The players] struggle, “she added. “We miss the Tour. I miss the Tour, I miss the players and everyone who participates in all the tournaments. “

Free time has a bright side, admitted Halep. “I have been at home since February and I have never been home for so long. Years ago and it’s a different life! ”

“I had 22 days in the house I think! “

What did those 22 days in Bucharest look like? According to the reigning Wimbledon champion, her home routine is very similar to that of others.

“I wake up around 10 or 11 am,” she said, laughing at Eurosport. “Yes, it’s great to have a lot of sleep! No alarm, no schedule … I just woke up, I have a late breakfast …

But that’s where the similarities end – once the world No. 2 starts its day, it’s straight to a champion’s training program, including a daily run and basic home exercises to stay fit.

The Romanian will surely need this physical form once the tennis season resumes: with Wimbledon announces cancellation earlier this week, this means that Halep will retain the title of defending champion for another year.

“I take the positive points because for two years I have been the defending champion! Plaisanta Halep. “I have to live with this feeling for another year, so it’s a good thing in the end. “
