‘Saturday Night Live’ is back this weekend with new original content it produces remotely

After dark due to the coronavirus pandemic, “Saturday Night Live” will return this weekend with new original content to be produced remotely, NBC announced Thursday. “SNL” will be broadcast in its normal time slot on Saturday at 11:30 am PT ET.

Original content will include “Weekend Update” as well as “other original content from members of the” SNL “cast,” NBC said in a statement.

The network has not specified the length of the episode or whether the new content will be streamed live or recorded in advance.

Thursday, the show posted a casting photo on Twitter in what looks like a giant Zoom call. The tweet was accompanied by the hashtag #SNLAtHome.

The NBC strain series, which was originally scheduled to return from hiatus on March 28, suspended production last month due to the epidemic.

“SNL” joins other late-night shows that have come back on the air, albeit from a distance. NBC’s own “Late Night with Seth Meyers” returned last week with Meyers hosting the show from his attic.
