Retail Council of Canada Supports Grocers’ Choice to Limit Purchases

Retailers respond to the Minister of Agriculture for telling them not to limit the amount of chicken, milk or eggs.

Gerry Byrne says that we are exporters of these products, so there is a lot to do.

The Retail Council of Canada tells the minister that it is the grocers who know how to run their business best, not him.

Jim Cormier, the director of the Atlantic, said that people started hoarding when bad weather forced a long halt to ferry crossings a week ago.

Customers then started asking them to limit the quantities of certain items.

He says they are proud of their choice and that it is a competitive business, so if one retailer limits an item, chances are that another will not.
