According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Chicago Bulls have started a formal search process to hire a new executive. Among the candidates, the team is interested in the general manager of the Toronto Raptors, Bobby Webster.

Webster is under contract during the 2020-21 season, and therefore the Bulls should seek permission from the Raptors to interview him. The Bulls also plan to seek permission to interview Denver Nuggets chief executive Arturas Karnisovas with other candidates, according to Wojnarowski.

Darnell Mayberry, who covers the Chicago Bulls for The Athletic, also names Indiana Pacers GM Chad Buchanan and Miami warm GM vice-president / assistant Adam Simon like the other candidates of interest to the Bulls. Chicago is not planning to sue Raptors president Masai Ujri and Oklahoma City Thunder TEU / GM Sam Presti, via Mayberry, and also isn’t interested in player agents.

The candidate the Bulls choose, Wojnarowski said, will be given complete authority over basketball decisions. The team has previously discussed their plan with TEU John Paxson and GM Gar Forman, according to Wojnarowski, with Paxson likely to remain with the team in an advisory role. The Bulls are expected to have more conservations with Forman about his future, by Wojnarowski.

Webster, who was the youngest NBA general manager at 32 when he was promoted to the position by the Raptors in 2017, has been a member of the team’s front office since 2013. The list he helped build alongside the Raptors President Masai Ujiri before the 2018-19 season – which included a star player Kawhi leonard – turned out to be the best in the NBA, as the Raptors finally finished this season as NBA champions. And this season, Webster and Ujiri’s Raptors managed to reach a record 46-18, which was the second best in the Eastern Conference and third in the overall standings of the entire NBA, before the league suspended the game. due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
