The first NTT IndyCar iRacing Challenge event broadcast live on the NBC Sports Network cable channel attracted an average audience of 165,000 who watched Team Penske’s Scott McLaughlin drive the No. 2 Chevy on a virtual victory track at Barber Motorsports Park.

According to NBCSN, the number represents around 40% of an average IndyCar audience captured on NBCSN in 2019, which corresponds to a similar audience size of 40% for NASCAR iRacing events on FOX Sports.

The Barber number is significantly smaller than the 433,000 streaming viewers reported by IndyCar for Round 1 at Watkins Glen, but the metrics used for the two numbers are different. The 165,000 NBCSN for Barber represents the average audience size per minute, while the number for Watkins Glen represents the total number of viewers who watched the event live on YouTube.

For comparison purposes, approximately 40,000 people per minute were broadcast on the live stream during the Watkins Glen race.

At the moment, the rating agency Nielsen has not compiled and provided the total number of viewers for Barber.

The third round, scheduled for Michigan International Speedway, will take place on Saturday April 11.
