Aston Villa is linked to the Colombian striker who has scored 29 goals in 46 games this season.
He was highly touted with a move to Villa Park in preparation for the January transfer window, but nothing came of rumors and Dean Smith brought in Mbwana Samatta and Borja Baston after Wesley Moraes’ injury.
But new declarations of Villa’s interest emerged earlier this month, with goal.com indicating that the Rangers are resigned to losing him and are already lining up for potential replacements.
Former England striker Defoe was asked about a 23-year-old transfer to England and said he would make any decisions in his wake.
Defoe told Sky Sports: “I think he would need to be on the right team – a team that creates chances because I believe that if they get chances at any level, I think ‘He can score,’ he said. “He has the arrogance he thinks he can score in every game.
“You even see him sometimes in training, he misses chances and then you think” yes, but you were not allowed to score from there “but he still believes that he can participate in each match and that he can mark.
“Last season he scored 30 goals, this season he scored 29 goals and he went through a spell where he didn’t score a little. You can see that he is frustrated because he has this desire – he wants to score goals.
“I believe that in the right team, if you give him chances, he will score. “
The Rangers are believed to value Morelos at around £ 20 million, but their asking price could drop significantly due to the financial impact of the coronavirus crisis.
