Port Coquitlam prison hit by COVID-19 case

Fraser Health said tonight that it is “actively following up” with anyone who has had contact with a staff member who works at the North Fraser Pretrial Center and has tested positive for COVID-19.

Fraser Health’s Chief Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Martin Lavoie, said in a statement that he was “confident that the risk of exposure to the general public was low. There are currently no other confirmed cases among the staff or those detained at the center. “

This case follows an epidemic at the Federal Mission Mission.

“Fraser Health Public Health is working with BC Corrections and the Provincial Health Services Authority to identify anyone who may have been in contact with the staff member,” said a statement. “In accordance with provincial health guidelines, Public Health will contact these people directly to determine if they are symptomatic and if appropriate self-isolation measures are taken.”
